Google Pack is Live

Uncategorized

Yesterday at CES, there was a Google keynote where a few new things were introduced. Well, Google Pack is one of those things. Google pack is a downloader and updater for Google’s software. You can get all of their downloadable software in one simple package. Here is the rundown

Google Toolbar for surfing the web more easily.

Mozilla Firefox with the Google toolbar so you can have the most secure browsing experience.

Picasa for the best photo organizing and viewing experience possible on your PC.

Google Desktop so you can search your hard drive as easily as you can search online.

Google Earth so you can find anything on earth easily and take a look at it as well.

Google Talk to get you talking to other Googlers through an instant messaging client.

Google Pack Screensaver so you can setup your pictures to view when you aren’t using your machine.

Norton 2005 Special Edition with 6 months of free updates. I don’t recommend this one, but it is there nonetheless.

Trillian so you can talk to everyone on MSN, Yahoo, and AOL instant messenger through one client.

Realplayer for viewing streaming videos online.

Adobe Reader 7 to help you view those PDF documents easily.

Galleryplayer HD Images just to look pretty so you can have something to put in your Google Screensaver.

Ad-Aware SE Personal to help you keep your computer free and clean of anything that could takeover your machine.

And don’t forget that even though you may see a lot of them, you can choose which ones you actually want. So you don’t have to download all of the ones like Norton, but the rest are fair game if you want them. I would recommend downloading it. It has a lot of fun tools that you can enjoy.

Disney ABC announce new content for iTunes. [Free + Paid]

Uncategorized

Disney ABC announced today that it plans to add a slew of new programming to the iTunes Music Store, such as ESPN, ABC Sports, and Walt Disney Feature Animation.

This is great. Lots of content coming. This on the heels of the Microsoft/Sony deal. So more and more video is downloadable. And what gets me really excited is that some of the stuff you will be able to download via iTunes are Schoolhouse Rock and America’s Funniest Videos. I mean, what is better than people getting hit in the crotch with bats wherever you go. And when you get done with that, you can learn with Schoolhouse Rock. And they already offer Knight Rider. More and more I want something to play video on like that.

Flickr Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell

Uncategorized

It is no surprise that I check out Lifehacker all the time. I love it. And they are doing something neat right now and letting all of their readers submit their desktops to a photo pool on Flickr. Why?, you might ask. Well, to give other people ideas as to how to make their windows or mac desktop more functional. It is so that people can see what other people use to get the most done in the smallest amount of time. Mine is on there. Okay, so here is the link for the Lifehacker group if you want to check out some neat desktops. Right now there are over 150, there will probably be more than that here soon. Maybe you can get some good ideas. And here is the link to mine if you want to check it out. And if you have never checked out Flickr, now would be a good time.

The Best Web 2.0 Software of 2005 – Yes, Digg made it.

Uncategorized

It’s getting towards the end of the year and I’m feeling the need to take stock of where we’ve actually come with Web 2.0 in the last 12 months. So much has happened in this space recently and a tidal wave of innovative, high-quality software has been released this year. So much in fact, that it’s hard to keep track of it all.

Lifehacker Posts

Uncategorized

And I haven’t put up a lifehacker post in a little while, but there are a lot of good posts today from that great productivity site, so here they are.

Cook with what you got. With this site, you can see what you have to cook with, then find the recipe according to that.

Define your musical tastes with iTSM. This program indexes your iTunes library and helps you to make a signature sound that corresponds to what you listen to.

Collaborative projects at Instructables. I can’t say it better tahn what they put on their site, so “Instructables is a step-by-step collaboration system that helps you
record and share your projects with a mixture of images, text,
ingredient lists, CAD files, and more. We hope to make documentation
simple and fast. Show your colleagues how to operate a machine, show
your friends how to build a kayak, show the world how to make cool
stuff.”

As you type instant domain search. You type in an address and it lets you know as you type whether a domain is available and even has links to sites so you can register a domain easily.

Wired’s Firefox Extension Picks. These are the extensions to Firefox that the News site Wired thinks everyone should have.

Rival Chocolate Fountain. Okay, this one isn’t from Lifehacker, but I thought people might enjoy this one. It is a chocolate fountain that you might want to buy for that special someone who loves chocolate for Christmas. I was impressed by it for sure. I want one and I am not even a huge chocolate lover.

The Miami Vice Teaser Trailer is out as well. It is hard to quantify though because it doesn’t give you too much in the way of storyline, but a teaser never should.
