To Podcast or Not to Podcast

Current Affairs

Microphone
Okay, I have been a fan of Podcasting for a long time. Let me refresh your memory about what podcasting is. Obviously, the Pod in podcasting refers to iPod. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t download it and listen without an iPod. You can download the MP3 file and just burn it onto a CD if you want to and listen on your way to work. What a podcast is, is kind of like talk radio about a certain subject. NPR has their own podcasts that are simply segments of their show put together into a 30 minute or one hour block, and it is about a certain subject. I listen to the movie podcast all the time. I would say that, on average, I listen to about 20 hours a week of podcasts. I listen to mostly movie and technology related podcasts. They are what appeals to me.

So, here is the big question. Should I do a podcast? I have thought about it quite a few times, but I don’t know that it would be very good with me doing it. So, I am asking the people who regularly read this page to answer my question about whether I should do a podcast or not. I might do it on my own, I might do it with someone else, I really don’t know at this point. What do you think? Obviously, it would probably cover my two favorite subjects, movies and technology, or just one of those. And even if everyone on here says that I should do one, it doesn’t mean that I will. It simply means that I will have to take a harder look at it and see whether it is feasible or not. So, leave me a comment or email me and let me know if you think I should do a podcast or not. If the people that I know aren’t going to listen, then there is no way people I don’t know will. So drop me a line in one form or another and tell me whether it would be a good idea or not.

I will be on vacation for the next week, so unless I can find a wireless access point nearby to use, then I will not be posting for the next week. So that gives ample time to get enough responses to tell me whether it is a good idea or not. I’ll let you know how things went on the trip when I get back. Have a good week.

Holy geez a lot going on!!!

Current Affairs

So today has been a big day for me. For one, I got my diploma in the mail today. So that means that I am no longer a college student. I graduated from ITT Tech with a bachelor of science degree in Technical Project Management with a GPA of 3.77. So I did alright with that. Obviously I am happy about that. Then after I got off work, I went over to the Mitsubishi Dealership and got a car. Yes, that’s right folks, the Exploder is no longer my problem. So don’t look for me any more in the white explorer. Instead, you have to look for me in a 2006 Pearl White Mitsubishi Galant. If you don’t know what that looks like, then check out the picture. This isn’t of mine, but it gives you an idea of what to look for.
06410galangts00014552_2 Not only those things, but I am dating a really cool girl to go along with that. So I think my brother-in-law said it the right way earlier tonight. He said "My, how fortunes have changed". And it is the truth. Lots of stuff is happening. And I am also looking around at other jobs. So if anyone needs a good computer technician, I am available and looking. Just throwing that out there. Hopefully things will stabilize in that area soon as well. Lots of stuff in a small amount of time. It is crazy.

Gibson Guitars

Current Affairs

This is pretty neat. Me and Skeenes were at the Opry Mills mall yesterday and while the ladies shopped for a couple of hours, we went into 2 stores. Yes, only 2 stores. One was the Bose store where they did a demonstration and showed off some of the really cool stuff that their little bitty speakers can do, and the other store was the big Gibson Guitars store. They had some really neat looking guitars there, so I had my camera phone and as such, I took a few pictures. Here are the more interesting ones.

Regan is the funniest man alive

Current Affairs

Okay, we just got back a few hours ago from Nashville and seeing Brian Regan live. Let me just say that he is one of the funniest men alive if you ask me. I have seen his DVD, and listened to a couple of his past shows and they were hilarious. We thought that he might do some of the material from his previous routines and just kind of have those worked into the new act. But as it turned out, it was almost all new stuff. I mean, of course he had a few things that we had heard before. He did probably 4 bits that we had heard before, but other than that, the entire routine was completely new and was hilarious. Probably the funniest part was that even though it was rehearsed and put together extremely well, it was live. It wasn’t taped and put on comedy central after lots of editing, it was truly live. And because of that, he had certain bits that he screwed up saying, and because of that, he was able to show how quick on his feet he was. He could show kind of his improv skills. The guy was really great. I loved seeing him, and you had better believe that I will see him again the next time he is on tour.
I had never been to a standup show before. It was really a neat experience. It was kind of like a concert in that it had an opening act to get the crowd into it before Regan got on stage, and the opening act was really good as well. And then there was even an ovation at the end so that Brian came back again and did a few more jokes as an encore. If you haven’t ever been to a comedy show, go sometime. It is a really fun experience. But I would say to go to someone that you know is going to be funny for your first time, because if you just go to a comedy club and see some random person, then it could go badly and sour you on the entire experience. And nobody wants to be soured from laughing.

Real quick

Current Affairs

I know I said I was going to write some stuff this weekend, but things haven’t exactly gone as I had planned today. And tomorrow we are heading to Nashville to see one of the funniest people I have ever heard named Brian Regan. So if we get back at a decent hour on Monday, I will give you the rundown of things, as well as a few other items I have been stewing on. Only one more week of school left. Then I will have all the time in the world to write stuff, and you will wish I was back in it.

My dad is smarter than the Ginney

Current Affairs

Okay, so we have had this chicken walking around the house all the time for a few months now and it apparently really likes our front porch. We have a kickplate on our front door that is extremely shiny and he seems to be a vain animal. He likes to sit on the front porch and look at himself, then I guess he gets jealous of himself and starts pecking at the door. After he starts pecking, he starts getting excited and starts pooping on the front porch. I know, I know. Exciting. So we have tried to get the humane society out here for a while now, but they said that they have been trying to catch this thing for about a year, but thier traps don’t seem to work. So dad setup a trap in the front next to the front door that had a mirror inside of it and put some corn in the bottom. After a day of having it running around and just kind of looking at the cage, he somehow triggered it, but he didn’t get stuck inside. But then yesterday, he took the bait. He got inside and couldn’t get back out. So I told dad he was finally smarter than the bird, because I had my doubts. So he calls the humane society and tells them that we have the bird, and they say "I’m sorry sir, we don’t take birds here". So what do we do with the chicken? If the family wasn’t boycotting meat, we might have eaten it, but instead, dad calls a friend and finds out that they have some ginney’s at thier house so the bird can just get transplanted there. So dad and I have to transport the bird from our house to the truck so he can take it over there. So I lift up the edge of the cage and dad slowly pushes a board underneath it so that we can move it to the truck. The best part was while we were carrying it, the bird was going nuts just ramming the cage trying to get out. I know this is a long story, but it was fun, and not many people have to deal with chickens when they live in the middle of the city. I kind of felt like I was on Friends. So, just in case you doubted me, here are a few pictures of the bird below. The pictures could have been better, but the stupid bird was determined to not stay still for me, so I couldn’t get a clear picture of it.

Current Affairs

Okay, this is hilarious. You are going to enjoy this a lot. I don’t read the paper very often, but a guy at work showed me this and it is hilarious. There was an obituary that truly can not be real. So here it is, and to prove this is the real deal, the daily times has it on their website in the obits department.

Taxes aren’t all bad

Current Affairs

I am just like everyone else when I say that I don’t like taxes. But they do
have their good points. I mean, when you get it back because you have been
paying out the rear for school, then it is kind of like having a savings
account that you didn’t know you had. So I was stoked when I got mine back
because that meant that I could buy a new toy. And my new toy this year was an
exercise bike. I know, I know "how is that a toy?" Well, now I can
workout and watch TV or movies or whatever at the same time. How sweet is that?
I love it. It is so cool. And I thought about getting a treadmill, but with bad
knees, ankles, shins, toes, I don’t know, everything in that area, it is not a
good idea for me to do something with serious impact. So I like the idea of a
non-impact workout.

And this morning, I got up almost an hour early so that I could get up and ride.
And ride I did. I rode almost 7 miles this morning before I even went to work.
For some reason, I get a lot done in the mornings. I mean, I have heard that
mornings are a lot better for studying than night time will ever be. So when I
get up early, I have a nice quiet time, do some exercise, fix a smoothie. All
of the things that I wish I would do everyday. It is so nice. Just a thought
for any of you who might think about getting some exercise equipment. It is
really nice. My legs are a little wobbly, but it gets the job done without
having to "get ready" to workout.

School Projects are fun with Google Adsense

Current Affairs, Web/Tech

Okay, so normally I wouldn’t put something like this up, but I just had to share this with you all. In case you don’t know how Google AdSense works, it looks at what text is on a page and cross-references that with a database of ads and uses the most relevant ads to put on a page. So if you are on a page that talks about fight club, then you are going to see ads that say where you can buy fight club. Makes sense right? Well, their email program, Gmail, does the same thing. It looks at your text in the emails and gives you ads that pertain to that subject. I normally don’t even notice it because it is very unobtrusive and you don’t really think about it. But there are those times that it just doesn’t quite line up right.

So as you know, I am in school taking online classes. Well, we have to do group projects in many of these classes. Bad idea, but I have to do it anyways. And the thing is that it is hard enough to communicate in a classroom, much less online when you don’t actually see the other people. Well, we are having some difficulties with communication in our class. And as such, one of my group members has sent an email to one of my other group members and the Google ads are really funny in the email that I got. So I just had to share. The names have been changed to protect the not so innocent.
