Memories

I read on Sarah Lane’s blog about how she remembered these ten rules from when she was on the bus when she was a kid. And I started thinking about somewhat useless things that I remembered from when I was a kid. And I would say one of the most memorable is the different linking verbs. When I was in 4th grade, Mrs. Fernandez made us memorize these. She wouldn’t let us into the room in the morning until we were able to say each and every one of them. And I still remember them from 14 years ago. So here they are Mrs. Fernandez
Am
Is
Are
Was
Were
Be
Been
Being
I know that I use this in the correct way now, but it isn’t really something you think about, you just assume that everyone would be doing it correctly. I guess this is one of those things that blows the mind of people speaking other languages. I have heard that English is the hardest language to learn. In some ways I believe it. I mean, we are taught how to speak for 12 years, and then if you go on to college, that means another couple of classes on how to write with it. Then you have public speaking classes that tell you how to verbalize it. But I know people who are virtually fluent in spanish that have only been speaking in it for about 5 years. I guess that is one of those things that we take for granted.
