I know, I know, you’re wondering what I have been doing that has kept me away from posting for the majority of the week. Well, here is what I have beeen doing. Watching movies and eating. Sounds healthy huh? It was nice really. Since I finished up with this quarter of classes and passed my certification test on Monday, I didn’t have to study for once. Plus I had a lot of time off, so I got to just sit back and enjoy movies. So after reading on, you can see the list of flicks I caught this week.
Some I have seen before, but wanted to watch again, Batman Begins and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Then there were those that were on TV, that were on and I had no choice but to watch, Slackers, Not Another Teen Movie, Live and Let Die, and The Man with the Golden Gun. Plus there are some flicks that I had just never gotten around to seeing, so I got to watch them, Chocolat, From Hell, True Romance, Vertigo, and The Ninth Gate. And of course you know I had to check out some good and not so good new movies. And here are those movies along with a snippet on them and the rating associated.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang – Starring Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. This movie is a very dark comedy that most people wouldn’t enjoy too much just because of the style of humor and the narrative style, but it was really funny to me so I am giving it a 7 out of 10.
In Her Shoes – Starring Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLaine. The movie was pretty good. More of a chick flick, but not completely. It was actually a pretty good story. I give it a 6 out of 10.
Zathura – The Jumanji sequel was better than the original. It is good to see that they can make clean kids movies that don’t have to be animated. Take the kids and enjoy the movie. And don’t forget to suspend your disbelief as a lot of the stuff that happens doesn’t make a lot of sense for adults. It gets a 7 out of 10 from me.
Derailed – Starring Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen. This drama/thriller is about how badly infidelity can get you in trouble. It was predictable and not too interesting. It gets a 4 out of 10.
Get Rich or Die Tryin’ – The story of 50 Cent. Terrible movie with bad acting, writing, and dialogue. It was definitely no 8 mile. And 50 Cent needs to stick to rapping because his performance was very stiff. The movie gets a 4 out of 10.
Nanny McPhee – Starring Emma Thompson and Colin Firth. This family film that is a different take on the Mary Poppins story is very good. I think kids would enjoy it a lot, and I know that adults will enjoy it. I give it a 7 out of 10.
Walk the Line – Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. This is the story of Johnny cash. I can completely see why this is an Oscar contender. It can be nominated in so many areas. Joaquin Phoenix really does a stellar job as Cash and it is the performance of his life. The movie is great and I would recommend it to anyone. It gets a 9 out of 10.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – This was the best and darkest of the Harry Potter movies. If you have any desire at all to watch a Harry Potter movie, go see this one. It is darker and not for young children, but it is really good and very fleshed out. Go see it when you get the chance. I give it a 9 out of 10.
So that is a total of 19 movies. I know some people who don’t watch that many movies in a year. But this is my release and I am relaxed because of it.
