Best of the First Half of 2006

Here is the best of 2006 in the first half of the year in my opinion. These may not all be Oscar contenders, but they are the movies I enjoyed the most.

10. Nanny McPhee – A great family movie that anyone would enjoy.

9. Winter Passing – With a great cast, there was only one possible outcome, Gold. I really enjoyed this movie and its top-flight cast. Too bad it got such a limited release.

8. District B13 – One of the best pure action movies I have seen in a long time. It is foreign, so there are subtitles, but it is worth it.

7. Ultraviolet – This is what Aeon Flux should have been. It was seriously impressive visually, and had a really cool storyline.

6. Cars – Pixar hits another home run with this one. It is completely engaging and really a sweet story.

5. Down in the Valley – Edward Norton turns in another stellar performance, and Evan Rachel Wood shows why she is one of the most courted young talents in Hollywood.

4. Hoodwinked – A different telling of the Little Red Riding Hood story. It is a lot of fun and completely original.

3. Brick – A film noir movie about high school that blew my mind. It is masterfully written and should be acknowledged as such.

2. Lucky Number Slevin – A really well written movie that has a lot of laughs and some really good dramatic points. Josh Hartnett really shows up in this film to get back on the Hollywood radar.

1. V for Vendetta – One of the best superhero movies I have ever seen. I was completely enthralled in that film. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really need to.
