Relevant Articles

I have a few relevant articles that pertain to the recent events that are happening around us, and then one that is just interesting. The first one is about how the Pope is elected. It is really an interesting article for those of us who are not catholic. You can read it here. And it makes me think of the Dan Brown book Angels and Demons because this is how the whole book started. It is really neat. But I do have one thing to say about the whole death of the Pope. I understand that he was an icon and a great man. But I see on TV these people are crying like crazy and yelling out and everything, and I just don’t get it. I mean, if Billy Graham died, I wouldn’t be doing that. Call me insensitive (I know I am), but I don’t understand why these people get so worked up about it. I mean, he was a man just like everyone else, and that is all. It is almost to the point of worship in the way they are mourning his death. People are getting interviewed about his passing and everything and they make it seem like he was their best friend, or someone they spent a lot of time with, but they have never met him, nor do they have mutual friends. It is just not something that I fully understand, and don’t expect to. I mean, even people who are "icons" in the local area that pass on don’t get people this worked up when they do have a closer proximity than all the way across the globe. Well, that is my rant. It is interesting, but I won’t act like I get it.
The next relevant article has to do with Daylight Savings Time and why we have it in the first place. It turns out that we have it because businessmen thought that people would buy more stuff if they got off work while it was light outside. Now, as to why the time changes in the fall, I don’t know. But at any rate, here is the reasoning behind it.
And the last article is about a guy in New York and is homeless. He pretty much lives at Starbucks, Kinko’s, and a local church. He has a desktop computer that he uses the available free wi-fi internet at the local businesses to do his thing. He sleeps in a chair at the Kinko’s while he is on the net surfing and IMming. It is a funny, true article. Read it if you have a few minutes and it’ll make you think about how happy you are that you are responsible.
I’d hardly take Dan Brown’s word on the catholic church in any case, but that is a separate issue I suppose.
About the pope and stuff, I posted some stuff on my site, basically saying how I feel about the whole thing.
I have to admit I’ve also been confused by the pope passing. I understand mourning the loss of a great church leader, but some people really seem to freak out. I’m in your camp of those who “don’t get it”.
