Grey’s Anatomy

Let me tell you real quick why I like this new show on ABC. It really fills a genre that has no real competition. It is directly in between ER (one of the longest running dramas on TV) and Scrubs (one of the funniest shows on TV). Am I saying that it is as good as either of these in their format? No. But what it is is a good alternative. I like that in this hospital show it is about the things that happen at the hospital around these 7-10 characters. They aren’t making the drama, instead they are around it. They aren’t cracking jokes, only in instances that you and I would. It is a really good show. ABC is making it harder and harder to define what genre their shows fall into. I suppose someone took a hint from Desperate Housewives in the fact that it can’t be classified as a comedy or a drama, but instead fills both roles. Plus, they took a note from WB and incorporated the popular songs into the shows. It dates the shows a little, but if it is good music, then it won’t matter. Like at the end of the last episode as things were winding down and resolving, the background music was the song by Keane, "Somewhere Only We Know". And the last thing that I really like about this show is that people actually die. I know that sounds cryptic, but it is a hospital, it happens. It is not a big deal. I mean, i know a human life is a big deal, but in the hospital atmosphere, you have to kind of numb yourself to something like that. In ER, they seem to save everyone by the end of the show and in Scrubs, if someone dies then it is pretty much the whole show and they are the focus. But on this one, it happens, time to move on to the next patient. All I have to say is that if you aren’t doing anything this Sunday at 10, watch ABC. If you like what I had to say about it, then check it out. I want this show to get picked up and not be one of the many shows that is on 6 or 7 times and then never seen again.
