Engadget Podcasts

So over the past week I have been listening to the Podcasts of my favorite tech site Engadget.com. It is mostly just 1 or 2 guys talking about tech stuff as they are in the know of electronics and the computer industry. But they also tell a lot of good sites and programs from around the web. So I have listened to about 5 or 10 of these 45 minutes radio-style shows this week and have finally gotten around to checking out their shownotes that have some really good links. So I thought I would put up some of the links myself for the articles and programs that caught my attention.
The first one is a really good list of Freeware utilities. The majority of these I have heard of or use or have no need for. But it is a really intensive list of programs that are quality products.

The next one is about how to use Bit Torrent to download your favorite TV shows automatically. Instead of going to your favorite site to download them, you can just have it download automatically using the RSS feed.

The "What is IMSmarter?" section says what this is best. It is a really neat little utility.

What is IM Smarter?
IM Smarterâ„¢ is
a new kind of instant messaging enhancement.
IM Smarter empowers all of the major messaging
services with a rapidly expanding set of cool, new features. It’s not a "bot".
It’s not a plugin for AIM. It’s not a program that you run instead of your
existing IM client. Using IM Smarter can be understood as hiring a secretary for your IM;
IM Smarter, like a secretary, sits between you and the rest of the world and helps you manage
your messages. Imagine having one place you can search
and visualize your instant message chats with anyone you’ve chatted with using any of the
major IM networks. Imagine being able to update your blog as easily as sending an IM,
and getting an IM whenever any of your buddies update their blogs. IM Smarter keeps you
in the loop with things that you told it to remember and things you told it to keep an
eye out for.

This one is Eric Engberg from CBS being afraid of blogs taking away the fat cash he takes home. At least that is what I see. And if he is that scared of his job being taken away by 20 year old kids, then he needs to work harder. Blogging can just as well be journalism as it can be rants (like mine) about whatever people feel like talking about. It is a real shame that some people actually take guys like this seriously. Just because you are not an early adopter of a new medium doesn’t mean that you should throw stones at those who are.
Blogging as Typing, Not Journalism

This article really upsets me. Best Buy apparently doesn’t want me as a consumer. Want to know why? Because I am too informed. I actually know about computers and electronics and how to use them. I also know to price shop online for the best price instead of just going to the nearest electronics store and grabbing it.

I have never been a fan of Lexmark. Their printers are never as smooth looking and easy to use as Hewlett Packard machines, but this article just kind of solidifies my reasoning for not buying their products. I will not buy a Lexmark printer for sure now. This is ridiculous, and illegal.

And then one that didn’t come from Engadget, but was appropriate to go along with a post from a few days ago about Daylight Savings Time.
