This is something for the geeks out there. Yahoo has acquired so many companies that are doing quite well in their own right. But when big bad Yahoo comes a-calling with lots of money, they don’t turn it down. So here is a list and quick rundown of some of the big ones that they have taken under their wings to make their services more fully functional.

Upcoming.org was acquired by Yahoo a few months ago and is

Konfabulator was acquired by Yahoo earlier this year and is
Yahoo! Widgets are little files that you can run as separate utilities
on your desktop. They use a special JavaScript runtime engine called
the Yahoo! Widget Engine, which is available for both Windows and Mac
OS X. You can download the engine and a starter set of Widgets from widgets.yahoo.com.
A Widget is a mini-application that can do almost anything from
displaying a weather forecast to playing a game. Widgets generally sit
on your desktop and don’t look like "normal" applications. Instead,
they’ll likely look like small pictures or animations.
So those are the ones that I know of. Did I miss any? Do you use any of these on a regular basis? The ones I use are Konfabulator and Flickr. The others I have just played with, but not seriously. So if you have any tips to get started, just let me know. I would love to be able to do everything from one account.
